During our last checkup Arnav weighed well between 5 to 10percentile. I was almost thinking he was headed to below 5 percentile. One amazing thing happened though, just 2 days before his checkup in December I happen to pick "Babywise" book in the library and started reading it like crazy just to understand what was wrong...I was quiet surprised with things I learned, some of the things started working immediately like I had Arnav put on a 12 hour sleeping at night, atleast it did work first night, since before that he was hardly sleeping 8-9 hours.
It was one of my happiest day when we had his first 4 oz baby food during lunch eat it right till the end...I am beginning to see some improvements in his weight.
Doctor however wasn't bothered at all since both of us are kind of petite, doctor believes its alright. Other then that, am having so much fun with everything that Arnav is doing.
To all the other moms worried about baby weight this book might help, it did seem to apply to us very well.

Please be careful. . . you little one may be genetically petite. However, the information in Babywise is not based on research on infant growth, development, and metabolism. Some infants do not "fit" the ideas in the book, and there have been many mothers whose babies have had slowed growth (or even failure to thrive).
ReplyDeleteThe hard thing is, slowed growth issues may come on slowly, so they are hard to see, and if Babywise is "working" with sleep issues, then it can be difficult to discern it isn't working with regard to growth issues.
A mom can be using flexibility and common sense, attuned to her baby, and still have problems. Unfortunately, when using the ideas in Babywise as part of the decision making matrix, since those ideas are not based on sound science, it can have a negative impact on the baby.
Sadly, I'm sharing this because that was our experience.
